Prayer Warrior, My Dear Friend

This lady is to be honored, a great prayer warrior and a true friend in my life.  Sandy Friend a lady that I personally know walked and talked with the Lord daily, I must say she had cloud or favor with Him. I will only scratch the surface with what I am going to share with you about her. Our friendship came about when I had first started attending Faith Temple (now Valley Pentecostal Church) hardly knew anyone so she invited me to her home with her family for Thanksgiving. I accepted her invite which till this day I am so glad I did, something about her spirit attracted me to her. She shared her yearbooks from when she attended CLC Bible College in Stockton, California, and OH MY did we share a laugh with the hairdo’s and dressing from back then…I am so glad we don’t have to wear our hair like that and our skirts lengths today would be looked as Quakers back then (LOL). We had a unique friendship it was not a clingy friendship whenever we got together we just pick up from where we left off. I was unemployed at that time so she asked me to join her and another single mom from a local church to prayer meetings in her home. I was relatively still coming into Truth so I really needed those prayer meetings to experience meetings like so was an “experience” for me. Our conversations were about Prayer or the Word always, I loved this and I called it a safe friendship. Many, many times when this single Mom was weary and felt I couldn’t bear the weight of life I knew on Tuesday night this lady was always early for pre-service prayer so I would kneel to pray next to her, grabbed her hand and draw strength from her. Three years ago, I started taking some Bible classes; she was the best tutor a student could have, our conversation was more in depth about the Godhead and church history. We shared numerous of emails on things we debated about in the bible; we laughed so much over our own ideas and thoughts. We both shared and read fiction biblical historical novels and we were quite the critiques of these authors.

A few months back Sister Friend was diagnosed with cancer and she was set on if God didn't heal her she was leaving this world. I didn't quite agree with her but I told her I would be there for her. In the between her surgery, rest periods from her treatments she would weep and tell me I can't feel God, I told her of course you can't you are in the midst of one of the biggest storms in your life. I will pray for you and stand in the gap for you till the very end. One day she called me over before church and told me I had a dream about you which I have never had about anyone in the church. Come see me after church, I myself facing some medical issues forgot to inquire of the dream till three weeks later. I went to her and told her Sister I am so sorry I forgot to come see you about the dream, she looked at me and stated, I went back to the Lord and asked Him if you should know about the dream. I looked at her astonished as Wow, this Sister is so close to God she went back to Him about me. The Lord told me you must know about the dream. Whew...I was relieved. She told me the dream and what it all meant and I believe it will come to past.

In the final week of her illness I was there with my friend, with most of her hair almost gone, we sang old songs, Sunday school songs (which were all scripture, she composed all the melodies) and she ask me to pray with her. My heart was breaking as she became weaker each day because she was leaving me and I wasn’t ready to let go of her. I was at her bedside hours before she passed on to Glory. The last visit with her I leaned in close to her ear, told her its ok to go home, I will see you again in heaven my Sister. Thank you for the many sleepless nites and times you rolled out of bed when the Lord asked you to intercede for whatever He asked. You were a very rare, precious friend that I can’t ever replace. Thank you for everything you taught me about prayer and how to give of yourself.

I miss her tremendously, I don’t believe I will ever have another spiritual friend like Sandy.
